American City & County Awards

American City & County annually awards communities and individuals for their accomplishments. Governments that complete a project with long-term implications are eligible for our America’s Crown Communities Awards. Individual leadership is recognized in our Exemplary Public Servants of the Year awards, which combines our past Municipal Leader of the Year, Public Works Leader of the Year and County Leader of the Year awards.

Fred Buckenmeyer’s innovative and first-in-North America-solution of running fiber optic cable through existing city water lines is why he was chosen as American City & County 2021 Exemplary Public Servant of the Year Award winner.

In 2018, American City & County combined the Municipal Leader of the Year, Public Works Leader of the Year and County Leader of the Year awards into one group of awards: Exemplary Public Servants of the Year awards. Nominees are judged on their accomplishments and the impact these actions had on their communities in the year the award is given. The winners are profiled on American City & County‘s website.
