Freightliner Business Class M2e Hybrid truck easily can be configured for a wide variety of bodies for different applications, such as utility, pickup/delivery, landscape, leasing, government and waste collection. Compared with nonhybrid-drive trucks, Business Class M2e Hybrid: reduces fuel consumption up to 60%; lowers carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide and particulate emissions; and cuts down idle time by as much as 87%, which reduces fuel use, exhaust, heat, noise and vibration. Mounted equipment, such as buckets and lifts, run from an electric power takeoff without noisy idling. Truck features a parallel electric hybrid system that enables vehicle to operate using diesel engine alone or in combination with the hybrid electric motor. Regenerative braking system captures about 70% of vehicle’s kinetic energy and regenerates charge to the hybrid battery, extending brake wear and allowing for continual battery recharge. Lightweight Cummins ISB engine accommodates up to 20% biodiesel. Truck boasts roomy interior, automotive-style controls, low step-in height, broad windshield and other amenities.
