Bomb-Containment Device Looks Like Fine Furniture
Designed to protect people and property, a compact containment device can mitigate detonation of plastic explosives, hand grenades, and other bomb blasts. The device recently passed tests conducted by the U.S. Navy to successfully hold and enclose potentially explosive materials. In the event of an explosion, the device minimizes the escape of flying fragments into the air. Measuring about 24 by 24 ins. and weighing approximately 60 lbs., the device consists of an enclosed chamber, without a door that can create weak points during explosions. Recently introduced by Composiflex, Inc., headquartered in Erie, PA, the device comes in various models, including caster-equipped versions that look like fine, hardwood furniture (pictured). Potential uses for the device range from government security applications to the military, munitions transport, or mass transportation. Composiflex, Inc., Erie, PA
