Packaging Encases Military Machines for Outdoor Storage
Although the Massachusetts National Guard must keep equipment in tip-top condition, ready for action at a moment’s notice, storage of large and expensive machines can present problems. Storing this equipment in indoor garages can be costly and consume excessive space. Military officials thus looked into a way to store 23 diesel semi-tractors and 10 trailers outdoors, while protecting the equipment from corrosive forces such as salt air, frequent rainy spells, and snow storms that hit the New England coast. Fitting the bill was a barrier packaging wrap made by Protective Packaging Corp., based in Carrollton, TX. Each piece of equipment was enclosed in Protek 4000, a 9-mil-thick packaging wrap, and topped with a UV.-resistant, reinforced nylon cover. The storage solution is guaranteed to protect and preserve the equipment for 2-12 years or longer. Protective Packaging Corp., Carrollton, TX
