Security System Senses People in a Heartbeat
To reveal the presence of people hiding in vehicles, a new security and surveillance system detects human heartbeats. Called MicroSearch, the system consists of a computer, small sensors, and cables. The sensors, similar to those used to measure earthquakes, detect small vibrations transmitted to the vehicle’s suspension system by the heartbeat of an individual hidden inside the vehicle. Made by Ensco, Inc., based in Falls Church, VA, the system comes in three configurations: desktop computer with color monitor; portable, laptop version; and an environmentally sealed NEMA-4 compliant model, with a color touch-screen display. Ideal for sites ranging from border crossings to correctional facilities, MicroSearch can also pinpoint people hiding in cargo and shipping containers that are loaded on vehicles of any size. In addition, the system can monitor, manage, and report on vehicle traffic. Ensco, Inc., Falls Church, VA
