Humvee tool kits are currently headed to Iraq, armed with a range of components to protect U.S. troops in combat zones. Under a recent contract, Model V390 drill sharpeners were added to the kits, based on the tools versatility in the field. Soldiers can use the sharpeners to refurbish worn drill bits, as well as to fix armor plating and perform other minor repairs on Humvee vehicles. In addition, the tool can expedite the installation of satellite antennas for global positioning systems, including Mobile Tracking Systems that pinpoint each vehicles location and ensure ongoing communications with occupants. Made by Darex, based in Ashland, OR, the drill sharpener weighs 24 lbs. and measures just 12 by 11 by 9 ins. for compact transport.
