Study Reveals Top 150 Federal IT Contractors for FY04
Reston, VA – April 28, 2005 – The first and only list of the top 150 federal contractors based on information technology (IT) spending in fiscal year 2004 (FY04) was released today by INPUT, the quantifiable leader in government market intelligence. The contractors on the 2005 INPUT Federal IT 150 received more than $36 billion of the overall $50 billion spent by the federal government in FY04. Over $17 billion went to the top ten contractors on the list.
“Once again, we are pleased to be the first to provide the most timely and valuable information on the government technology contracting industry,” said Kevin Plexico, executive vice president, information services at INPUT. “As the 2005 INPUT Federal IT 150 list shows, this continues to be an extremely attractive space for both prime and subcontractors of technology solutions. INPUT is pleased to be the market intelligence firm of choice for the majority of the members of this elite network of contractors.”
Northrop Grumman Corporation, Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC), and Lockheed Martin Corporation top this year’s INPUT Federal IT 150 list. Of the top ten contractors, nine are primarily services companies with Dell Inc. being the only company in the top ten receiving the majority of prime contract spending from the sale of products. Of the top 150, 32 contractors are new to the list from FY03. Twenty-eight of the top 150 federal IT contractors closed merger & acquisition transactions during FY04.
“Big contract wins, strategic acquisitions, homeland defense programs, and wartime spending were all key factors in determining placement on the INPUT Federal IT 150 list,” stated Plexico. “Homeland defense and wartime spending provided an economic boost for many companies outside of just the very large, established defense players.”
To determine the INPUT Federal IT 150, INPUT examines a sub-set of the Federal Procurement Data System (FPDS) data based on contract actions reported under IT-related Product / Service Codes (PSCs). INPUT includes those PSCs that it deems to be IT-related. In order to ensure that the data and rankings are as accurate as possible, INPUT invests over 10,000 hours of analyst time annually to structure, clean, and analyze the FPDS data. INPUT’s Federal Vendor Profiles, Federal Opportunities, Federal Market Analysis, and Federal Task Orders subscription programs provide supporting data and analysis.
