The 10 best cities for new homebuyers in 2022

  • Written by Michelle M. Havich
  • 8th March 2022

Homeownership is an aspiration for many, and millions of people make that a reality every year. According to Insurify, a site that compares home insurance quotes, more than 6 million homes were sold across the country in 2021, and housing markets are on track to continue trending upward in 2022. But finding the perfect first home is not only about the house itself, but also where that house is, and what that area has to offer. Increasing home values, good public schools, a safe environment, and a strong community with the availability of a variety of goods and services are all important factors for homebuyers to consider

The data scientists at Insurify recently used its database of more than 4.6 million insurance applications, along with data from the U.S. Census Bureau, the Bureau of Labor Statistics and Realter.com, to identify best city for new homebuyers in every state in 2022.

Insurify considered the 288 largest metropolitan areas in the United States, analyzed proprietary and public information, and rated each metro area using a composite score based factors including real estate value and demand, employment levels, public school enrollment, and driver and pedestrian safety. Alaska, Delaware, Montana, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Wyoming were excluded from the analysis due to insufficient municipal data.

American City and County went through the final list and pulled out the 10 cities with the highest overall appeal score to create a list of the top 10 cities for new homebuyers. Click through the gallery above to see which cities ranked the highest.
