Memphis first responders rely on mechanical CPR unit
The Memphis Fire Department is the first metropolitan fire department in the U.S. to outfit its frontline personnel with the LUCAS mechanical CPR device.
The Memphis Fire Department is the first metropolitan fire department in the U.S. to outfit its frontline personnel with the LUCAS mechanical CPR device, which provides continual chest compressions to adult cardiac arrest victims. Memphis will put LUCAS on each of its 36 frontline ambulances.
“I’ve never seen anything that the firefighters are clamoring for like this device,” said Gary Ludwig, deputy chief of EMS. “We’ve noticed already a 42 percent increase in spontaneous circulation for patients that we used it on.”
