The system can be expanded to cover environmental hazards, bioterrorism and outbreak management, and it allows local, state and federal entities to track, control and prevent illness and death. It provides a forum for experts in the public-health community to work together to create these critically needed public-health software applications. It is an open-source community, allowing the code to be modified, customized and shared.
