Optical sensor detects ice and snow on roadway surfaces
Boasting a nonintrusive design, terra-Q features an electro-optical sensor that detects pavement conditions, without the need to install a traditional sensor in roadway surface. Installation requires no cutting of roadway or lane closures. Ideal for monitoring ice, snow or water on difficult roadway configurations and bridge decks. Can warn roadway maintenance personnel immediately when snow or ice begins to form on surface, allowing work crews to dispense de-icers before roads become hazardous. Optical sensor rests within weatherproof housing. When road is wet or slushy, sensor automatically uses built-in cleaner (similar to a vehicle’s windshield wiper and washing fluid) to ensure a clear view for capturing accurate readings.
