When San Bernardino County, Calif., residents returned to survey the property damage from October wildfires that spread through mountain neighborhoods, many found potted flowers, American flags and safety kits waiting for them in their driveways. The county Department of Public Health (DPH) distributed the items to inspire hope and symbolize re-growth for residents who found their homes damaged or destroyed in the fires that swept through southern California. DPH employees and community volunteers distributed the home re-entry kits that also included cards signed by the county Board of Supervisors, the Office of Emergency Services and county employees along with safety and comfort items, many of which were donated by local businesses.
