U.S. Navy signs mega-million contract for ship-shape document needs
More than 300,000 active-duty military personnel will benefit from the contract, which includes a shipboard multi-purpose copier program.
The contract includes installation, custom mounting, training, supplies and dedicated service worldwide for nearly 3,000 multifunction and related printing devices, as well as printer software—all supplied by Rochester, N.Y.-based Xerox Corp.
In addition to supplying sailors with onboard black-and-white and color printing technology, the Xerox Deployable Support Group includes 51 worldwide services support personnel who are responsible for maintaining and supporting the equipment.
A Xerox employee, known as a shipboard rider, travels on all ship missions to ensure that equipment runs properly for the 23 aircraft carriers and large-deck amphibious ships that have onboard print shops. Additionally, another 260 surface ships and submarines are serviced by Xerox personnel when docked at ports located around the globe.
“Every branch of the U.S. Armed Forces has document demands that can emulate that of a large corporate enterprise,” said Greg Jones, senior vice president, Public Sector Operations, Xerox Corp. “Whether it’s at sea or on land, our goal is to provide the most up-to-date technology that makes document technology seamless for the Navy.”
Xerox also has made an ongoing commitment to honor U.S. troops by creating a “Let’s Say Thanks” program. By accessing the program’s Web site, any individual can send a free printed postcard to U.S. military personnel stationed overseas. Each postcard can be personalized with the sender’s message, name and hometown.
