ROA 2007 National Convention This Week
The Reserve Officers Association (ROA) 2007 National Convention brings together ROA delegates and members in San Francisco this week. The Reserve Officers Association is a 70,000-member professional association that represents millions of officers, former officers and families of all the uniformed services of the United States, primarily the Reserve and National Guard. The ROA fulfills the mandate of its congressional charter by providing the Congress and the president with nonpartisan advice on issues of national security on behalf of all members of the Reserve Component.
This year’s theme — “The Future is Now” — reflects the growing reliance upon the Reserves for military and Homeland security support. The conference agenda focuses on this emerging role and the importance of ensuring equitable treatment of the reserve component in all areas from training and equipping needs to health care and employment assistance.
Among the agenda highlights is a panel discussion examining “The Reserve Component Role in Responding to Disasters,” and seminars addressing the application of TRICARE and enforcement of The Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA).
Convention speakers and panelists include the following:
Major General Robert Ostenberg, USAR, Director, Reserve Forces North American Aerospace Defense Command and U.S. Northern Command; Major General William H. Wade II, ARNG, California Adjutant General; Rear Admiral Patrick McGrath, USN, Deputy Commander, Readiness Command Southwest; Rear Admiral Cynthia A. Coogan, USCG, Director of Reserve and Training, U.S. Coast Guard; Mr. John Truesdell, Deputy Assistant Secretary of the Air Force for Reserve Affairs; Lieutenant General John A. Bradley, USAF, Chief, Air Force Reserve (Lt. Gen. Bradley also is the 2007 Minute Man Hall of Fame Inductee); and Mr. George Friedman, CEO and President, Strategic Forecasting (Stratfor).
