SIA survey to help in FIPS 201 implementation
Members of the Security Industry Association (www.siaonline.org) have been invited to contribute to a government study intended to forecast the availability of Commercial-Off-The-Shelf (COTS) equipment meeting FIPS-201 application criteria.
Participating in the study will allow SIA members to directly influence the specifications of HSPD-12 and the range of FIPS-201 applications, including the Transportation Worker Identification Credential Program (TWIC) and First Responder Authentication Cards (FRAC).
Members and other security professionals may participate by responding to an anonymous survey posted on the SIA web site. Click here to take the survey.
The federal government has classified automatic security systems as IT systems, requiring that future equipment purchases be LAN-compatible in every phase (implementation, documentation and scaling) within an agency’s IT infrastructure.
The SIA Standards division is nearing completion of a suite of interoperability and performance metric standards in anticipation of these requirements. These Open System Integration and Performance Standards (OSIPS) are currently undergoing public comment resolution.
The OSIPS standards are being created to facilitate the integration of compliant equipment into the IT environment and to promote ready adoption by the IT industry, the private sector, and government.
