At least two Oregon law enforcement officials are blasting a plan to replace state police troopers on highway patrol with sheriff’s deputies. State Police Lt. Rich Pileggi and Malheur County Sheriff Andy Bentz say the idea is “disjointed” and instead the state should add more troopers, according to the Argus Observer. Oregon’s population has grown by 40 percent in the last 27 years, but the state patrol has reduced by half.
