Power problems plague New York, southern California travelers
Power outages on both coasts led to the cancellation or delay of hundreds of flights in New York and Los Angeles. In New York, where equipment failure also halted subway service, a power failure at La Guardia Airport led to the cancellation of more than 60 American Airlines and Delta Air Lines flights, according to The New York Times. In California, officials say a vehicle hitting a power pole may have caused the outage that shut down a Federal Aviation Administration air traffic control center in Palmdale, affecting airports across the southern end of the state, according to the Los Angeles Times. About 220 flights at LAX alone were affected.
