Mapping out the future of GIS
Geographic information systems (GIS) have such a wide variety of applications for local governments that organizations might not know where to start.
Geographic information systems (GIS) have such a wide variety of applications for local governments that organizations might not know where to start. For that reason, the Washington-based Public Technology Institute (PTI) has published a white paper that examines how GIS data and technology can be used more effectively in local governments. It includes examples of enterprise-based GIS operations in Kansas City, Mo.; Charlotte, N.C.; and Fort Worth, Texas, and provides practical steps local officials can take to improve the use of GIS. To download “A Practical Guide toward the Establishment of the Location Aware Enterprise,” visit www.pti.org. The paper is free to PTI members and $20 for non-members.
