Metal buildings can be a lifesaver for local governments needing to expand
In 2023, cities and counties are relying on metal buildings to help them meet their infrastructure needs and requirements, says Harlem, N.Y.-based architect and educator Victor Body-Lawson FAIA, founding principal of Body Lawson Associates Architects & Planners. “Yes, metal building systems are ideal for needs and uses like infrastructure, storage, recreation facilities, industrial warehouses and […]

How state and local CIOs can prioritize security, cloud and legacy systems
NASCIO recently released the annual State CIO Top Ten Policy and Technology Priorities for 2023—and cybersecurity and risk management, legacy modernization and cloud services rank near the top. With rising cybersecurity concerns, a growing emphasis on upgrading legacy systems, and a desire for more flexible, cloud-based technology, CIOs are focused on solutions that efficiently and […]

    Taking a higher priority
When budgets become tight, and unforeseen challenges or emergencies occur, government entities must re-prioritize operational needs, often deferring infrastructure projects and facility maintenance. However, as buildings continue to age, and the backlog of maintenance and upgrade projects becomes longer, infrastructure is taking a higher priority for municipalities, school districts and higher education institutions. Federal funding […]
  • infrastructure procurement
Is your agency’s procurement team sidelined during the infrastructure procurement process?
Early in my professional career as an agency CPO, I was asked if my team played a role in infrastructure projects. I did not know how to answer that question, so I investigated. I found that despite our centralized procurement setup, infrastructure projects—from preparing solicitations to awarding—were handled in a siloed environment by a separate […]

    I think this research is
I think this research is confusing liberal/conservative with democrat/republican. The cities in the liberal list I think are cities with people tha vote democrat but dont consider themselves to libetral or progressive. These are voters that vote democrat because of their situation but are otherwise socially and culturally conservative…

    Seattle really is very
Seattle really is very liberal, with their strict gun laws, lenient marijuana laws, anti-smoking, recycling, public services, high taxes. I am surprised Olympia isn’t on that list, too. It’s full of hippies and liberal idealists.

    I don’t believe it. Detroit
I don’t believe it. Detroit is no way the most liberal city in the U.S. The true test for liberal, is how accepting are they of members of the gay community, and most cities that have high black populations, like the ones listed, usually have a lot of violence towards gays. Michigan is also vehemently anti-same sex marriage. So, this is a bunch of bs. Michigan is blue only because it has a high black population, and has the auto industry. Boston, Providence, San Francisco, and Cambridge should be a lot higher, and the idea of Birmingham,AL on that list is a joke! Alabama is extremely homophobic, what a farce! Just because a city has a high black population, does not mean it is liberal in any way.

You and I think very much
You and I think very much alike in this regard. I’m looking to relocate out of Florida because of the marriage equality issue. I’m middle class so, some fancy flight off to California is out of the question. I need to be as practical as possible. I would like to speak to any gay person looking to relocate for the same reason. While I believe 2014 will bring an additional ten new states into marriage equality, I think everyone already knows which ten they are, Colorado being one of them. Shall we do this by state or city? I say State. contact me at my email address authorpainter at gmail dot com.

Actually San Fran came in at 9 on the lefty list, definitely too low. Why Portland, basically Berkley of the Northwest, is left off while including Birmingham, Alabama is mystifying.
