Manager of Fleet Operations
Starting salary: $75,000-$90,000 plus attractive benefit package.
The Position
The Metropolitan Government of Nashville, Tennessee is seeking qualified candidates for the Manager of Fleet Operations. The Fleet Manager has overall responsibility for organizing implementing and directing a centralized fleet management program for Metro. This Civil Service position will head the new Office of Fleet Management (OFM) within MetroÕs General Services Department Duties will include planning, managing and executing all facets of MetroÕs fleet management plan. An operating budget of $8.5 Million and a staff of 88 positions are planned for FY 2003 commencing July 1, 2002. Approximately 3,000 units of rolling stock serving Police, Fire, Administration, Public Works, Parks and Recreation and Water are included.
The Candidate
The preferred candidate should possess the following: thorough knowledge of standard shop practices, methods, tools and machines of the various skilled mechanical trades; thorough knowledge of gas and diesel and alternative automotive and specialized highway equipment; mechanical operation and hydraulic systems; considerable knowledge of warehousing and stock control procedures; experience with fleet management information systems; ability to plan, assign and supervise the work of Garage Managers and to advise them on technical mechanical matters; ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, the public, and other Metro Departments; progressive experience with centralized fleet management programs over several years; experience in execution of a business plan for large fleets; experience in managing an organization of comparable size.
Education and Certification
The preferred candidate should possess the following: BachelorÕs Degree from an accredited college; Certified Automotive Fleet Manager (CAFM); or any equivalent combination of education and experience which demonstrates possession of the required knowledge, skills and abilities; active participation in relevant professional fleet organizations.
