Resource helps locate veteran-owned businesses
As the U.S. paid tribute to its veterans on Veterans Day, President Obama offered his thoughts during the Veterans Day National Observance at Arlington National Cemetery. He said his leadership team was improving care for veterans, but said that more needs to be done. During his speech, he addressed the need to provide opportunities to service members who are leaving active duty.
“Our tributes today will also ring hollow if we don’t find our veterans jobs and opportunities when they come home,” Obama said. He noted that although the jobless rate for veterans was lower than the national average of 3.9 percent, he urged companies to hire more veterans.
Resource for locating veteran-owned businesses
Is your government or other organization trying to locate potential contractors? How about contractors that are also veteran-owned businesses? One tool that can help governments, companies and other organizations locate veteran-owned businesses is ThomasNet.com’s Supplier Diversity Application.
Procurement and supply management professionals working toward achieving diversity targets use the online application rather than paging through multiple sources and directories. It is a free central source that can help locate qualified companies.
The product sourcing and supplier discovery platform offers a large database of woman-owned, minority, veteran-owned, and disadvantaged and small businesses, including their certificates. The resource helps save time for buyers. With the tool, procurement agencies can create shortlists for their direct and indirect spends.
The application provides suppliers’ current and historical certifications, making their certificates available for download. The system also offers online links to other proof of ownership.
ThomasNet.com’s in-depth, multi-page profiles offer buyers a complete look at prospective vendors’ full suite of competencies. Detailed information includes product and capability catalogs, quality certifications, locations, key contacts, year established, brands distributed or manufactured and financial information. The new application leverages the free productivity tools offered throughout the platform, allowing buyers to save profiles, create and export supplier shortlists, and send Requests for Information (RFI). The Supplier Diversity Application is one of six applications available on ThomasNet.com.
