The (federal fiscal year) end is nigh

GovTribe's Marc Vogtman discusses end-of-federal-fiscal-year strategies for businesses seeking federal contracts.
  • Written by Marc Vogtman
  • 21st September 2015

Editor’s note: As the federal fiscal year 2015 winds down to its finish on Sept. 30, GPN reached out to Marc Vogtman for his views. Vogtman is CFO of GovTribe.com. The firm offers federal contracting marketing intelligence. It is a single source for all available government contract information. Vogtman’s views are below.

For firms interested in landing federal government business, now is the time to get to work. Our firm has projected that about 42,000 new solicitations for government contracts will be published on GovTribe.com through the last quarter of federal fiscal year 2015, which ends Sept. 30. Set your Alerts. Track your NAICS categories and agencies. Start building out your Pipeline. Don’t miss your opportunity. What am I talking about?

What we see is a consistent, dramatic trend that can be reliably predicted year after year. Between July and September the federal government posts between 35 and 40 percent of its solicitations for the fiscal year. The month of August alone typically sees 13 to 15 percent of the year’s postings – more than twice the monthly average.

The effect is even more dramatic if you look at the percentages of procurements completed. For example, there are three times as many proposals due in September than in any month in the first half of the fiscal year (15 percent vs. about 5 percent on average). And there is 3.5 times more contract dollars awarded in September than in any other month of the year (25 percent vs. about 7 percent on average).

GovTribe believes the federal contracting market should be easily accessible by everyone. Whether yours is a company of one, or one person in a company of thousands, our offering is built for you.

Our firm provides details on tens of thousands of contract opportunities, and profiles on every agency, office, vendor, contracting officer, and NAICS category. Track any one of them to get real-time notifications.

Pipeline is our business development process management and collaboration tool for government contracting opportunities. Use our Radar offering to find partners and research your competition. Radar gives you real-time performance metrics for the companies in your market.

Organize your pursuits in the way that makes sense to you. Share a pipeline with your colleagues. Create task lists. Organize file attachments. Add opportunities to your pipeline from scratch or link them to existing projects. Go here to view our firm’s blog.
