Lowe’s grant program can be a source of fire service funds
I recently read a post on FIRE CHIEF’s LinkedIn network about thinking outside of the box when seeking grant dollars to support fire department programs. There are opportunities outside of FEMA grants, Assistance to Firefighters and SAFER grants. Grants are available from corporations and private organizations, as well.
To start, check out big-box retailer Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation. The company, through grant programs, donates more than $30 million annually to education and community-improvement projects across the U.S. and offers staffing through Lowe’s Heroes program — a group of employee volunteers dedicated to improving their communities. This would be a great place to look for civilian volunteers to help with special projects, such as building a community garden on firehouse grounds.
