Asheville, N.C.-based Volvo Construction Equipment North America is holding an online competition that aims to publish videos of safe work practices on jobsites across the United States and Canada. The Working Iron Challenge is intended to portray the reality of construction and other demanding fields as individual testaments that exemplify the term “Working Iron.”

Video clips submitted to the Working Iron Challenge website must express any of the elements that define working hard by overcoming obstacles, working efficiently by lowering fuel consumption and working safely. The videos will be voted on by the public, and prizes will be awarded to the best videos.

All who submit a video have an opportunity for a monthly participant prize. “Every day, men and women in hard-working industries throughout the U.S. and Canada are presented with obstacles on the job. Those might include demanding jobsites where high production is an absolute must, a dangerous environment where unsafe practices must be avoided, or even finding ways to slash fuel costs and work smarter in general,” said Paul Parker, senior marketing and programs specialist for Volvo Construction Equipment North America. “This [competition] is just as much about the iron inside of people as it is the iron — the heavy equipment — we sell.”

The grand prize-winning video will be announced in the Volvo Construction Equipment booth N1641 at CONEXPO-CON/AGG 2011, scheduled for March 22-26 in Las Vegas. The grand prize winner will receive a trip for two to a premier sports event of their choice: the summer stock car race at Daytona, a professional hockey finals game, the college football national championship game, or the men’s college basketball national championship game.

Qualifying video entries will be posted to the web for online viewing with three separate periods for public voting to determine three grand-prize finalists. Entrants have until Feb. 24 to register and submit video entries in the challenge through the company’s website at workingironchallenge.com.
