Pink is the new orange
Jail is not supposed to be fun, but some inmates at the Ben Hill County, Ga., jail may feel like they are being subjected to cruel and unusual punishment.
In November, Sheriff Bobby McLemore decided to paint the entire place pink, according to WBBH television news. “We are also going to have pink shower shoes, pink wash clothes, pink towels, pink sheets and pink blankets,” jail administrator Martin Hough told WBBH. They even plan to use pink handcuffs, and pink jumpsuits will replace the traditional orange garments (female inmates receive bright lime green jumpsuits).
The color is supposed to have a calming effect on the inmates, but McLemore said he also hopes to discourage repeat visitors to his establishment. “This is our décor, and if they don’t like our décor, then they don’t have to come back to our jail,” the sheriff said.
