Tennessee allows guns in restaurants.
Tennessee residents who feel a need to go out to eat while packing heat, may now feel free to do so. In July, the state legislature voted to override Gov. Phil Bredesen’s veto of a new law that allows handguns in bars and restaurants, according to the Huffington Post. A ban on carrying a handgun while consuming alcohol will continue, and restaurant owners will be allowed to prohibit handguns in their establishments. Sponsors of the bill say Tennessee’s permitted gun owners have proven themselves responsible with low numbers of permit revocations. Bredesen, however, continues to oppose the law. “I still think that guns in bars is a very bad idea,” the governor said. “It’s an invitation to a disaster.”
