APGA, Rain Bird name May 8 ‘National Public Gardens Day’
The Wilmington, Del.-based American Public Gardens Association (APGA) and Azusa, Calif.-based irrigation products manufacturer Rain Bird have designated May 8 as “National Public Gardens Day.” The company and the association are preparing a local, regional and national awareness and education campaign to educate the public about the importance of environmental preservation.
Scheduled for the Friday preceding Mother’s Day, National Public Gardens Day will include the broadcast of public service announcements, media tours and presentations by local and national spokespersons on improving plant management and water conservation. Many of APGA’s 500 member institutions, which include botanical and educational gardens, conservations and historical landscapes, will hold special events and activities for schools, families and regular visitors, in some cases through the Mother’s Day weekend.
