Minneapolis’ new Web site gives residents a glimpse at city’s budget
Minneapolis officials are open to suggestions on how to cut costs. To solicit suggestions, they have launched a Web site that allows residents, businesses and employees to view the city’s budget and offer advice on how to save money and streamline services.
The loss of $13.1 million in state funding, which was cut in December, is forcing the city to make significant cuts to its budget, according to a city press release. Visitors to www.ci.minneapolis.mn.us/2009budget/ can participate in an online survey, view information on how the city’s budget works and get details on planned community meetings on the budget. Mayor R.T. Rybak is expected to propose the 2009 budget to the city council by mid-February, and the council is expected to vote on the budget by mid-March.
