PERI Web tool benchmarks local governments’ risks
The Fairfax, Va.-based Public Entity Risk Institute (PERI) has created a Web-based tool for local governments to establish benchmarks for their risk management programs. PERI’s Data Exchange Dashboards compare statistical data from users with other municipal risk management programs and presents the data in easy-to-read graphics.
Metrics on the dashboards include average cost per claim, average claim duration, average cost of litigated claims versus non-litigated claims and total amounts paid for claims during the year. The dashboards can break the data down by categories, such as claim type, attorney involvement and department. “Government administrators and board members rely heavily on statistics for determining overall performance of an organization’s operations,” said PERI Executive Director Gerard Hoetmer in a statement. “While annual statistics are useful in assessing performance, understanding how a local community’s programs compare to other governments is key.”
The dashboards are available at www.riskinstitute.org.
