FBI awards $100 million building project to Alex S. Palmer
According to the company, Palmer will be the owner/developer of the 216,322-gross-square-foot office building, with an expansion right up to 292,034 square feet, and adjoining parking garage.
The facility will be built on a 10-acre FBI campus at the former site of Stapleton International Airport in Denver. According to Palmer, construction is slated to begin in the second quarter of 2008.
The FBI signed a 20-year lease with Palmer after a six-month competition for the contract.
“The General Services Administration [GSA] and the FBI selected Alex Palmer & Co. by establishing that their offer presented the best value to the federal government,” said Mark Pearce, contracting officer for the GSA. “A competitive procurement was conducted by GSA that included several other distinguished developers from across the country.”
Peter Ruggiero, design partner with Skidmore Owings & Merrill in Chicago, will lead the architectural design team. Ruggiero has designed many high-profile commercial buildings, including 7 World Trade Center in New York. Australia’s Bovis Lend Lease will serve as the contractor for the project, which is scheduled for completion in December 2009.
“This is an important project and we will be working with some outstanding architects and contractors to build this Silver LEED-certified Class A office building for the FBI’s new headquarters,” said Alex Palmer, president of Alex S. Palmer & Co.
According to the company, Palmer’s portfolio of past government building projects includes the Veterans Administration building in San Diego, a government office building for the county of Alameda in San Francisco and the Internal Revenue Service building in Fresno, Calif.
