Columbus, Ohio, and 10 suburbs sign ‘Green Pact’
Officials from eleven local governments in central Ohio signed a pact last week to pursue more environmentally friendly initiatives in their communities. Columbus, Bexley, Dublin, Gahanna, Grandview Heights, Grove City, Hilliard, New Albany, Powell, Upper Arlington and Worthington signed the agreement on Oct. 4.
The Green Pact includes 10 environmental actions: using alternative fuels for fleet vehicles; changing zoning and building codes to encourage “green” buildings; changing purchasing practices; enacting sustainable land use policies; reducing energy consumption in public facilities, reducing waste and boosting recycling rates; educating residents about protecting the environment; reducing emissions; preserving green space; and encouraging mass transportation.
