Smart Card Reader Controls Access to PCs
BlackBerry Smart Card Reader enables users to run authentication over a Bluetooth connection to BlackBerry handsets or PCs running Microsoft Windows XP (SP2 or higher). User inserts smart card into reader and provides log-in credentials on the “paired” peripheral. Embedded security automatically locks handset or PC if reader and the paired device divert from the preset range. Supports ISO 7816 specification for smart cards, including support for U.S. Department of Defense Common Access Cards and DataKey/Safenet 330 cards. S/MIME support in conjunction with Microsoft Exchange or IBM Lotus Domino allows employees to digitally sign and encrypt messages from their BlackBerry handset or PC for sender-to-recipient security. Reader is slim, compact, and lightweight (2.6 oz.). Can be worn on a lanyard. Uses same USB charger as BlackBerry handset. Research in Motion, Waterloo, Ontario, Canada
