Sex change shake-up
In March, Largo, Fla., City Manager Steve Stanton was fired after revealing that he wanted a sex-change operation. Despite reports that Stanton bullied city employees — and, of course, that he desired to be a woman — city commissioners said the 48-year-old was axed because they were no longer confident in him, according to The Associated Press (AP). The termination was finalized following a six-hour hearing during which city commissioners voted 5-2 in favor of his dismissal.
You can run, but you can’t hide
The “15-minutes-of-fame” clock is still ticking for Jennifer Wilbanks, the young Georgia bride who ditched her groom in 2005, but claimed to have been kidnapped. Wilbanks, who was discovered in Albuquerque, N.M., following her infamous “runaway bride” stunt, is now the subject of a police recruiting campaign that will feature 10 billboards placed throughout the city. The billboards show Officer Trish Hoffman, who led Wilbanks through an airport following her capture, grabbing a bride’s veil with the tagline “Running away from your current job? Call A-P-D recruiting,” according to AP. The department also hopes to use the $16,000 ad in fliers, posters and on TV.
