The U.S. Geological Survey is calling on local governments to contribute information to its Geospatial One-Stop (GOS) Web site, www.geodata.gov. GOS brings together geographic data from a variety of sources, such as the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration and NASA, to support local, state and federal efforts in fields such as homeland security and disaster relief.
GOS managers want local governments to register and publish metadata for web mapping services. New technology makes the process easier and faster than in the past, says Sam Wear, GOS’ local government liaison. For more information on providing data to GOS, contact Wear at (914) 995-3047 or at [email protected].
