New Web site promotes rural safety
A new Web site is offering updated information on transportation safety issues in each state. The Center for Excellence in Rural Safety (CERS), based at the University of Minnesota’ Twin Cities campus in Minneapolis, provides research, training and outreach services to “rural transportation practitioners and policymakers.”
The center’s official Web site, http://www.ruralsafety.umn.edu/, went active in January. It includes links to news stories on road safety, information on safety research and state-by-state safety information. Formed as a joint project between the university’s Hubert Humphrey Institute of Public Affairs, State and Local Policy Program and Center for Transportation Studies, along with the Federal Highway Administration, CERS focuses on policy, technology and safety-conscious planning.
