Protecting the environment is the theme for this year’s “National County Government Week”
“Protecting the Environment” is the theme of the Washington-based National Association of Counties’ (NACo) National County Government Week (NCGW) scheduled for April 22-28. More than 1,000 counties nationwide participate in NCGW each year.
The purpose of NCGW is to raise public awareness about county governments’ responsibilities through programs such as tours of county facilities and presentations for schools and community organizations. In keeping with this year’s theme, NACo is encouraging counties to show residents how they promote energy-efficient development, use fuel-efficient vehicles and other steps they take to protect the environment. “America’s counties take seriously their responsibility to protect and enhance the health, welfare and safety of their citizens in sensible and cost-effective ways,” says NACo President Colleen Landkamer. “Environmental protection plays a critical role in this great responsibility.”
