GSA Releases FY08 Budget Details
The fiscal 2008 budget requested by the President includes $20.1 billion for the U.S. General Services Administration, agency head Lurita Doan announced today. All but $561 million is funded through revolving fund revenues for the purchase of goods and services, rent paid for space in GSA-owned and leased buildings and other customer reimbursements.
“I am proud of this budget,” said Administrator Lurita Doan. “By reducing wasteful and unnecessary spending and balancing our budget, we are making GSA a more effective agency and aligning ourselves with key objectives outlined by the President to secure the nation, demonstrate financial restraint and achieve improved economic growth through government efficiency and effectiveness for the American people.”
The budget supports GSA’s initiative to address the backlog of repairs and alterations projects. GSA manages 8,300 government-owned and leased buildings, which house more than one million federal workers in 1,600 U.S. communities. The 2008 budget includes $804 million to modernize the agency’s real property portfolio.
Additionally, the 2008 GSA budget request reflects $615 million in new obligational authority which will provide funding for critical facility projects for the Department of Homeland Security, the Food and Drug Administration and the Judiciary as well as Ports of Entry along the nation’s northern and southern borders.
