Electronically Monitored Fire Extinguishers Enhance Safety at Correctional Facilities
As part of a safety project initiated by the Suffolk County (MA) Sheriff’s Department, more than 175 electronically monitored fire extinguishers were recently installed at two correctional facilities in Boston. The installation includes en-Gauge technology, by which fire extinguishers integrate with a stand-alone monitoring system, located in the Central Operations Department of each facility. By installing en-Gauge, security personnel receive instant alerts if any fire extinguisher is removed from its correct location, is not fully pressurized and operational, or if an obstruction is blocking access to the fire extinguisher. With en-Gauge, a wireless or hard-wired Sensor Interface Module allows flush- or surface-mounted installation near each fire extinguisher. The modules connect with any existing alarm system. Ideal for installation in a variety of new or existing buildings, en-Gauge eliminates time-consuming visual inspection of fire extinguishers each month, as required by fire codes. “By installing en-Gauge electronically monitored fire extinguishers, we are enhancing the life safety of our inmates, staff, volunteers, visitors, and other prison-related personnel,” says Andrea J. Cabral, Suffolk County Sheriff. “en-Gauge will ensure that our fire extinguishers are always where they should be and ready for use in the event of a fire emergency.” MIJA, Inc., Rockland, MA
