Billings, Mont., needs to improve its infrastructure to keep pace with rapid growth, according to a University of Montana economist. Larry Swanson, director of the O’Conner Center for the Rocky Mountain West at UM, says the city’s job market is growing, so it needs to improve roads and sewers, according to the Billings Gazette. Swanson also says the state depends too much on income from property taxes, and the head of the Billings Area Chamber of Commerce is calling for a local-option sales tax to bring in revenue from visitors.
