Mississippi Power is asking the state and Kemper County to contribute money to the construction of a $1.88 billion coal plant the company says is needed to meet future growth. The plant would generate enough power for 100,000 homes, but the county must still decide whether to build the coal plant or a nuclear plant, according to the Clarion Ledger. Mississippi Gov. Haley Barbour endorses the construction of the coal plant.
