Marlborough, Mass., Mayor Nancy Stevens has vetoed an ordinance that would ban high-risk sex offenders from living in most parts of the city. Stevens says she thinks the ordinance, which stated that certain offenders could not live within 2,500 feet of any place children gather, was possibly illegal and probably unenforceable, according to The Boston Globe. A local chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union says the law, which allowed sex offenders who owned property to stay in their homes, discriminated against poorer sex offenders.
