The divide continues to widen between Los Angeles’ mayor, city council and city attorney after Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa vetoed a $2.7 million settlement the council had approved for a black firefighter who claimed he had been harassed. As part of a media furor that erupted after the settlement was approved in a near-unanimous vote, pictures were made public of the firefighter participating in hazing pranks, leading to Villaraigosa’s veto. Council members and Villaraigosa now blame City Attorney Rocky Delgadillo for approving the settlement without properly informing them about the pictures.
