The housing authorities in Boston, Cambridge and Brookline are suing Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney on the grounds that his cuts to their budgets violate state law and are causing a “near crisis” in housing. The three authorities say they want more money for all of the state’s nearly 250 local authorities because the lack of funds has led them to close hundreds of public housing units, according to The Boston Globe. The chief of staff for the state’s Department of Housing and Community Development, a defendant in the suit, says the department increased operating and maintenance subsidies by 7 percent. The executive director of the Cambridge authority says that is it enough.
