Plans for the construction of Georgia’s first commuter rail line, which has been debated for almost two decades, are back on track, with service possibly available in two years. Norfolk Southern railroad company and the Georgia Department of Transportation have made an agreement, clearing the way for the $106 million, 26-mile rail line between Atlanta and Clayton County, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. Supporters of the line say it will help relieve traffic congestion, but opponents say it will cost too much and will be under-used.
