While parts of New Orleans are still rebuilding from Hurricane Katrina, the city is taking proposals for a massive redesign of parts of its famous riverfront. Five teams of architects and planners from around the world have been asked to submit more information on their bids to redevelop a 4.1-mile stretch of public land on the east bank of the Mississippi River, according to the Times-Picayune. City officials’ plans for the area, currently the location of Port of New Orleans wharfs, include a public riverfront park, entertainment venue, a hotel and an expanded cruise ship terminal.
