Massachusetts Secretary of State William Galvin says he will take control of the Boston Election Department following election-day problems that capped a history of controversies the department has faced. During Tuesday’s election about 30 precincts, mainly in the city’s minority areas, ran out of ballots due to an established practice of only providing enough ballots for 50 percent of each precincts’ registered voters before each election, according to The Boston Globe. The city usually provides more ballots as necessary, but on Tuesday the trucks carrying the requested ballots became stuck in traffic.
