Los Angeles sues former Housing Authority official
Los Angeles officials are suing the former head of the city’s Housing Authority over missing funds. The lawsuit alleges that Donald Smith, the authority’s former executive director, moved nearly $70 million in housing funds into different accounts, and some of the money disappeared before being recovered later, according to the Los Angeles Times. Also, the authority’s former Assistant Executive Director Lucille Loyce, who was fired at the same time that Smith was forced to resign, is accused of steering millions of dollars to an old friend. Smith and Loyce have not been charged with a crime, but the Housing Authority’s current director says he hopes the lawsuit will lead to evidence that will allow them to be charged.
