Boston is becoming the next city to replace its crack-able concrete sidewalks with bouncy, flexible rubber. Proponents of the measure to install rubber sidewalk panels say they will save the city time and money on fixing concrete sidewalks that have been broken by tree roots, according to The Boston Globe. Several other cities have installed the sidewalks since they were invented eight years ago by a public works inspector in Santa Monica, Calif., who dreamed up the idea after spending a long day inspecting tree-cracked sidewalks.
