The California Senate and Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger have approved a plan to cut emissions of greenhouse gases in the state by 25 percent, and it is now in the hands of the Assembly. If the law passes, California will be the first state to put a cap on carbon dioxide and other gases believed to contribute to global warming, according to the Los Angeles Times. The Assembly is expected to approve the new law despite protests by oil and power companies that the new restrictions would do nothing to prevent global warming but would drive businesses out of the state.
