Where the buffalo don’t roam
Officials in Deadwood, S.D., rejected a proposal that would allow buffalo to run rampant through city streets, similar to the “Running of the Bulls” event in Pamplona, Spain. Businessmen in the town, which is reminiscent of the old west, proposed the release of American bison, however, city commissioners voted 4-1 against the idea because of liability insurance concerns, according to Reuters. Deadwood finance officer Mary Jo Nelson told the news service that the city’s insurer declined to provide coverage. The event was scheduled for July, and promoters were hoping to continue it for the next 10 years if successful.
A family affair
The Black Jack, Mo., City Council snubbed a proposal from the city’s Planning and Zoning Commission that would allow unmarried couples with multiple children to live together. A city ordinance bans more than three people from sharing a home if they are not related by “blood, marriage or adoption,” according to The Associated Press. In a statement, Black Jack Mayor Norman McCourt said that any resident found in violation of the ordinance would face possible eviction. The proposed measure was defeated by a 5-3 vote.
